Barrier Films

Multi-layer oxygen and moisture barrier film for food and pharma packaging

Manufacturer & Exporter of Barrier Films

Ikon Multipack’s Barrier Films are advanced multilayer films designed to protect packaged products from external elements such as oxygen, moisture, aroma, flavor loss, and mineral oil migration. These films ensure product freshness, extended shelf life, and enhanced safety across food, pharmaceutical, and industrial applications.

What Are Barrier Films?

Barrier films are specialty films with superior barrier properties that prevent the transfer of gases, vapors, and contaminants. By controlling oxygen and moisture permeability, they preserve the integrity of sensitive products while maintaining appearance, taste, and quality.

Barrier Films FAQs

A barrier film is a multilayer flexible film engineered to block oxygen, moisture, aromas, or UV light from reaching packaged products. Typically 3 to 9 co-extruded layers of PE, EVOH, PA, and tie resins, barrier films extend shelf life in food, pharma, and industrial packaging — meeting FDA, EU 10/2011, and REACH standards.

The four primary types are oxygen barrier (for snacks, dairy, meat), moisture barrier (for dry foods, pharma), aroma & flavor barrier (for coffee, spices), and mineral oil barrier (for paper-packed foods). Ikon Multipack manufactures all four variants in 7 & 9-layer structures with customizable OTR and WVTR.

OTR (Oxygen Transmission Rate) measures oxygen passing through 1 m² of film in 24 hours (cc/m²/day). WVTR (Water Vapor Transmission Rate) measures moisture ingress (g/m²/day). Lower values indicate higher barrier. Premium barrier films achieve OTR < 1 cc/m²/day and WVTR < 0.5 g/m²/day.

Barrier films are used heavily by food (snacks, dairy, meat, coffee, edible oil), pharmaceutical (blister pouches, sachets), nutraceuticalagrochemical, and industrial (chemical powders, adhesives) sectors — anywhere oxygen or moisture shortens shelf life or degrades product quality.

Yes. Ikon Multipack's food-grade barrier films comply with US FDA 21 CFR and EU Regulation 10/2011 on plastic materials in contact with food. Full Technical Datasheets and Declaration of Compliance are available on request for every export shipment.
